Wurster Fluid Bed Coating
The Original Wurster Technology Source
Coating Place, Inc. has been the leader in Wurster fluid bed coating since our founding in 1976. Wurster coating, synonymous with fluid bed microencapsulation, is the encapsulation of discrete particles in a fluidized bed using differential air flow to create a cyclic movement of material. The location of the spray nozzle at the bottom of the fluidized bed of particles is what sets our Wurster process apart from other coating methods. Differential air streams move the bed of particulate upward in a cyclic motion inside the chamber as it is coated with an atomized material to create a core-shell structure. This configuration insures that the coating material can be applied efficiently to individual particles while controlling for agglomeration. The process can be continued until the desired uniform film thickness is achieved through depositing one or many unique layers to the core.
Studies have demonstrated that a properly operated Wurster fluid bed coating process can provide a filmcoat of the highest quality and uniformity compared to other techniques. This uniformity can minimize coating thickness requirements, further reducing the amount of coating materials needed and the processing time. The Wurster coating process can be applied to a range of core materials in numerous particle sizes and shapes. The process is flexible enough to coat small particles for use in capsules and tablets, as well as coating the full capsules and tablets. Coating capabilities extend all the way to coating softgels capsules, extruded materials, powders, crystals and granules. No matter the shape—spherical, crystalline, irregular, amorphous—the Wurster process is capable of creating a unique formulation to achieve the desired properties.
This Wurster fluidization process is named after its inventor, Dr. Dale E. Wurster, Ph.D. Though other companies may be capable of providing fluid bed coating services, Coating Place is the only company who can offer fluid bed microencapsulation services with a direct link to Dr. Wurster’s original equipment design, proprietary linear scalability and an immense depth of formulation experience. Coating Place has the most comprehensive and modern Wurster facilities for developing your new product, troubleshooting an existing product problem or simply expanding your production capacity.
Coating Place has been in the Wurster coating industry since its founding in 1976 with the original Wurster patent and prototype equipment from Dr. Dale Wurster. Our extensive experience allows us to guarantee efficient and effective manufacturing processes, creating optimal and high quality services for our customers.
Our proprietary oral delivery technology is brought to you through our Oradel™ Platform. Our customers are offered extensive experience in the areas of modified release technology, multilayer coating and ion resin technology.
